Morzine airport transfer
Jul 12th, 2009 by skitransferadvice
The French ski resort of Morzine is part of the Portes du Soleil ski domain, one of the largest connected ski area in the world. Morzine transfers are easy to come by. There are many airport transfer providers competing on this route from all major airports in the region. There are also a number of scheduled services and public transport options.
Geneva International airport in Switzerland is by far the most convenient airport to reach Morzine. A transfer from Geneva airport takes as little as an hour to most ski resorts in the Portes du Soleil region including Morzine. Further airports within reach are Berne and Sion in Switzerland, about 2 hours transfer time, Chambery and Lyon St-Exupery almost three hours transfer time to Morzine.
Both Zurich and Turin airports are also transfer options, although longer. Note that if you fly into Turin airport you will have to travel through the Mt Blanc tunnel to get to any Portes de Soleil ski resorts as other mountain roads and passes are closed during the winter.
As for all transfer times, it largely depends on time of the day and the day of the week. During peak times you can easily add another hour to all the transfer times above.
Many operators offer shuttle buses or shared transfers into the Porte du Soleil region. The prices can be very competitive and as low as £20 per person from Geneva airport. However shared services come with waiting times and less flexibility compared to private transfer services.
Trains run from Geneva and Lyon airport to Thonon-les-Bains or Cluses from where you can take a shuttle bus to Morzine. There are also trains from Berne, Basel and Zurich to Monthey and Champéry from where you can take a shuttle bus to Morzine.
Morzine is a very easy and fairly low cost ski resort to get too. Probably no point hiring a car unless you are a group of four. In most cases an airport transfer to Morzine or public transport will be cheaper.
