Planning Your Ski Trip

There are many ways to go about planning your independent ski holiday. You don’t always have to start with picking a famous ski resort or book the next best package deal. Here some of our suggestions:
Firstly check out cheapest flights for your required dates into two or three regional airports. In general it’s a good idea to fly into one of the leading airports such as Geneva, Lyons, Munich, Innsbruck, Milan and Zurich. Larger international airports offer better transport integration and great access to leading ski resorts with plenty of public transport and ski transfer options.
Once you identified some of flight options, make a list of nearby ski resorts. Finding ski resorts nearby your chosen airport saves you both time and money. Each airport will have up to 50 ski resorts within one or two hour drive. Most Alpine ski resorts have web sites, or at least profiles on ski holiday related web sites. You can easily identify resorts with the best slopes and facilities nearby your chosen airports.
With you short-list of cheap flights, airports and ski resorts you can start hunting for your ski accommodation. Accommodation prices vary greatly depending on season and ski resort reputation. Again by short-listing a small number of airports and ski resorts you can pick best value ski accommodation for your budget.
It is possible to get to most ski resorts by public transport. The ski resort’s website will provide details. Public transport to ski resorts can be cumbersome and time consuming. However for groups of 4 or more it is often best to arrange a ski transfer in advance with one of the airport transfer operators. Booking a private resort transfer allow you to start you holiday without the stress of getting to the bus stations and high taxi fares.
